Reflections for Police Officer Arthur Lopez

Now today it´s one year ago and i still know like it was yesterday, when i got the message from a friend.
Artie, I´m sure you´re watching over us.
Next year we come back to NY and NC and we will visit your co-workers and with them... we´ll visit you!
I´m so happy and look forward to that day.

Even in Germany you´re not forgotten!
R.I.P.

On this, the eve of the 1 year anniversary of your death, I find myself wondering what you are doing up there? Are you watching over us? Are you chuckling at or mishaps, screw-ups and funny times? Do you miss us? We miss you. And we know you are watching over us...

As the days, months go on, there isn't a day that goes by that you don't enter my thoughts in one way or another. The many nights we worked, to you always lending a hand, to that awful gut wrenching day in October. I know you're looking over all of us. There is proof everywhere..but especially in your partner. You've been an Hero since the day you were sworn in. I miss you buddy

I still find myself thinking about you quite often. I was driving home the other day, and I saw the ESU truck that your name was put on, and it nearly brought me to tears.

What hurts me, (and most other people) the most, is seeing your mom at memorial services.

RIP Artie, nobody will forget about you.

To Officer Lopez and family. As a Police Officer for 27 years i have never been called to a party picnic or a social event it,s always trouble that,s what we do fight crime all day every day. It,s very hard to not hurt when a officer lose his or her life in the line of duty. So many people don,t like us until they need us but we still do the ugly job of crime fighters. Officer Lopez died doing what he love to do, Thank God for officer Lopez. I hoping his family can find peace in all this, may God bliss them all. R.I.P Officer Lopez..

Today marks 1 month ago that P.O. Artie Lopez was taken from all of us. As the days have passed and we were all consumed with the task of dealing with super storm Sandy, 30 days have come and gone. I can tell you that not a day has gone by since that horrible day that myself and my fellow NCPD ESU partners have not thought about Artie and the true loss our unit, this dept. and most importantly his family and friends have suffered. But know this, Artie would want us to all move forward and to smile while doing it. Because that is exactly what he would be doing right now if he were still with us.
Artie was a true hero in every sense of the word and not just for his heroic actions on Oct 23, 2012 but because of who he was and how he lived his life everyday. At the young age of 29 he was a man who understood what it means to not only be a great police officer but what it takes to be a great person. We will all miss your ever present smile and laugh but we will never forget you. May God and his newest angel Artie watch over all of us.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
