Reflections for Trooper Andrew David Fox

On Friday night when I heard about this tragedy I just couldn't believe what I was reading. My first year working for the Virginia State Police was the year that Trooper Fox went through basic with the 111th Basic Session and while I didn't know him then, I met him a few years later when I went to work with Fairfax County PD. He was working in northern Virginia and when I would get together with the state troopers in the area for happy hour and other get togethers, I would always see him with his wife Ginny and they looked so happy and perfect for each other, just good people all around. Ginny, my heart aches for you and I sincerely hope and pray that God gives you the strength to press on throughout this. I know you'll have no shortage of love and support around you through all of this.

Thank you for your service Trooper Fox. May your loved ones find peace in this time of great loss.

My prayers go out to the family, friends & co-workers of Trooper Fox. People need to realize the importance of having their attention on what is around them when they are driving. My first husband was also killed in the line of duty when he was struck while on a traffic stop. Lack of attention has caused so many families to lose loved ones.

I will never forget the hours we spent riding together and the conversations we had. You were like the little brother I never had. We learned so much from each other. You asked me about job stuff, I asked you about farming stuff. You were such a natural and quick learner. It is the greatest honor to have served as your FTO, shift partner, and friend. Rest in Peace Brother.

Trooper Andrew Fox was at the Virginia State Police Academy often assisting with the instruction of defensive tactics. I would always join all the defensive tactics instructors for lunch every time they were at the Academy. So, I got to know Trooper Fox, and I am very blessed that I knew him and I always enjoyed talking to him. There are not enough words to describe the sadness and pain that I feel because of his loss. I will always think of him and will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and State Police family.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
