Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Paul Hernandez

I know of no words that will suffice. No words that are adequate. May the family, friends and co-workers of Sgt. Paul Hernandez sense the peace of our Lord and Savior during the coming days.

About three months ago, Sgt Hernandez called me on the phone and said, "Gonzales, run me a 28", I said ok, so I did, he asked how everything was in Garland, I said everything is good, I asked him how he was doing down there in San Antonio, he said he was fine, I gave him the 28 return and he said, "thank you Gonzales, we'll talk to you later". Today I had the honor of calling his unit for the last time, but he didn't answer, Dallas 6089, Dallas 6089, Dallas 6089, no contact, Sgt Hernandez is now 10-7, 10-42, REST IN PEACE BROTHER.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

PAUL so long my friend. Thanks for the good times, the times you had my back, when we rode together in those BLACK and WHITES. Thanks for the times you sat and listened as only a partner could do. Thanks for letting me be your friend. To be able to stand by you during your down times. Thanks for the hours of small talk, the jokes, I know you set on the right hand of GOD today, enjoy your rest you earned it. PAUL WOULD DO TO RIDE THE INSTERSTATE WITH.

Vera may GOD hold you in his arms. I know you and Paul had something special, you could see it when you were together, and how he spoke of you when you were not their. I know its dark now but the SON will shine Paul is not alone... May GOD BLESS
