I sought out Captain Defusco for advice before making a transfer from the Pueblo County Sheriff Officer to the Denver Police Department several years ago. Captain Defusco was very supportive of my decision to leave for a new opportunity. Captain Defusco was a good man and a cops, cop he will be missed by all that new him.

The following was taken from my FB page to honor my friend, I am deeply saddened to learn of his recent passing.
---
I've decided to honor a good friend Leide Defusco from my late high school and early college years who passed away this past Friday in a plane crash in the San Isabel Forest.
Leide and I were camp counselors the end of our senior years in high school, which is where we met. A month or so later I moved to Pueblo, CO to work for my uncle Stan during the summers of '85 and '86 and Leide and I became great friends at that time. We used to go hangout constantly along with his two brothers and go fishing, cliff diving, go to parties, shoot fireworks, play football games, and hangout shooting pool in his parents basement while usually listening to a favorite band IRON MAIDEN a great deal over his very loud stereo system.
Leide covered a lot of ground in his life and was working for the Pueblo PD at the time of his passing. I am remembering him with one of our favorite songs from those days while remembering all of our good times together.
Rest in peace my friend, you are deeply and sorely missed.

We are left with holes in our hearts. Both these officers left lasting impressions in so many lives including ours. Thank you for the years of service you gave to the community and most of all, thank you for your friendship shared as law enforcement brothers.
May God carry your family and all who knew you through this difficult time and the days to follow.
May His loving arms surround them and give them peace.
Rest in Peace Leide and John. You will never be forgotten.

I never met you in person, but I've heard countless stories about you from my son. You've been his leader, mentor, inspiration, and a guiding force in where he is today. I thank you for your service, and for what you've been to my son. I only wish I would have had the opportunity to say this to you under different circumstances.
