Reflections for Chief of Police Herbert D. Proffitt

Words can not express our sorrow for your families loss.

Lt.Ret. Wm.D Cain & Family

August 31, 2012

When a law enforcement officer gets killed, a little bit of us dies with him or her.

This tragic death leaves us with the thought that once you carry the badge, you will always have it until you die.

I hope that his community remembers all the good things that he has done over those many years of service.

Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

O' Lord have mercy on me in my anguish. My eyes are red from weeping;
my health is broken from sorrow...

...DWELLING PLACES...

Although only a short time on this Earth Christ did dwell
The impact He had on us only time will tell.
What Christ did was to liberate us from sin
He showed us how to let a new life begin.
He told us we are to forgive and forget
He lived the example we are to set.
He gave all honor and glory to God’s Holy Name
He taught us we are to do the exact same.
What Christ brought into this world was change
He showed us our priorities we need to rearrange.
He told us God is to be first in our life
To put aside all foolishness and Earthly strife.
He foretold how we are to serve the Lord
To think of God as life’s ultimate reward.
And in this our lifetime only Christ will tell
If it be Heaven or hell in Eternity we dwell.

I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization.
As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
I have given my life so that others may live in peace.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.
You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

THANK YOU FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

To the wife and children of this wonderful man. I pray that your hearts do not hold onto anger and hatered. Because if they do then this coward who took your loved one and our brother will have truly one the fight this time. He will never win the battle or the war. Because we all know that the Police Officer's who are active/inactive are #1 in GOD's eyes. GOD bless you and your loved ones and please know that we grieve for you, with you, and long after we leave your side we still grief for the loss we were handed.

You not only served your country, you served the citizens of Kentucky. I am deeply saddened that you met your fate at the hands of someone you worked so dilligently to protect others from. May the Good Lord cradle you in his arms as you take you final journey. May he watch over and protect those you leave behind, and may he dole out the appropriate sentence to the man who took your life as you entered the twilight years of your life. Godspeed sir. I thank you for your dedicated service.
