The motto of the Texas Rangers is "No man in the wrong can stand up to a man in the right who keeps on coming."
On that day you were the man in the right and you kept on coming, job well done.

I never got the chance to meet Mr. Mitchell but he sounds like a spectacular man. My dad is a police officer in Upton County and after losing Mike Smith we understand the pain your going through. Our best wishes and prayers go out to your family in this time of need.

God bless those who dare to wear the uniform in order that we might live in a world where injustice thrives. To put on that badge each day to protect and serve is such an ultimate sacrifice. We will remember Josh, in both love and compassion. To His Family, peace be with you. To those of the call, God's grace be yours' and his full armour be you shield.

Josh was a true Hero and took his oath seriously. He gave his life while serving his fellow man. Somehow this memorial doesn’t begin to describe half the man that Josh was. Josh began his duties at the RCSO while still attending high school. After graduation, he worked as a night jailer while attending College and pursuing a career in Criminal Justice. After graduating from College, he then attended the Concho Valley Regional Law Enforcement Academy. After graduating from the academy he began his duties as patrol officer at RCSO.
.
Josh had a love for children and a special way of touching their lives. In January 2011 Josh began his duties as D.A.R.E. officer at RCSO. He shared the danger of drugs and alcohol with the children of Big Lake. Josh also began his duties as K-9 Officer for RCSO in January 2012. He and his trained side kick, "K-9 Officer Sherlock" worked many hours patrolling the streets of Big Lake together.
Josh served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the North Reagan County Volunteer Fire Department. Josh was named Rookie of the Year at BLVFD in 2007.
.
Family and friends were always included in everything he did and loved. He was a faithful son, grandson, brother and husband and was there for his family anytime they needed him. He was a friend and helping hand to all. He was a member of Community Baptist Church where he took time out of his busy schedule to care for the lawn. - Published in Midland Reporter-Telegram on August 5, 2012.
.
Hopefully this will give everyone a better idea of what a tragic loss the community has suffered. Our prayers go out to the family, friends and Co-workers of Deputy Josh Mitchell. May he rest in blessed peace.
