Josh,
I cannot believe it’s been over 8 years since you were taken. I stumbled upon this website while reading about another tragic officer death today. I actually had just thought about you a few days back when I was cleaning things out and found a picture of you and several of us on shift many moons ago. You had that big ole silly smile you always had on your face. My time with the police department certainly had its ups and downs but you were always kind and treated me with respect no matter what and I was always so appreciative. I remember when I graduated nursing school and came to visit another dispatcher you gave me a big hug and told me “go make some real money!” I remember when I got the phone call that you had been killed in an accident I didn’t believe it until I turned on the news. I think I was in shock for a few days like so many people. When I attended your funeral I remember thinking I hope I never have to do this again, I loved all of you as family during my time there. But I am so honored that I was able to attend yours and pay you the respect that you were due for being a good man and a great officer. So all these years later, know that knowing you and working with you for almost 11 years made an impact on my life for the better. I hope Knowing how many people truly enjoyed your company, truly enjoyed working with you and respected you,, brings your family peace and pride knowing that you were so admired and cared about at the department and in the community. Keep that beautiful smile on your face until you are reunited with everyone you love. You are not forgotten! Rest easy.

I was sitting here tonight with a fellow officer and was Talking about your passing and also our friendship how I’ve never been able to go to another officers funeral since yours. I will never forget the funny times we had in the Academy and how you got me to go to White settlement PD only for you to leave a year later for waxahachie ... I miss our conversations I miss us going and riding out with each other... I remember you calling that night wanting to cheer me up knowing my mother had just recently passed away trying to get me to come down and ride out with you just to hang out to make me feel better. I remember asking you when you were going to come back to work that I couldn’t make it down there that night you said you would be back on Thursday I promised you I would see you on Thursday , remember waking up early in the morning getting several phone calls from officers asking me if that was my friend that was killed down in Waxahachie. I remember trying to call your phone you didn’t answer then I found out for sure. I kept my promise brother I remember seeing you Thursday not the way I expected, you were my friend good or bad you were always there, you are missed !

Josh,

I don't know how to start to write this reflection ... this is harder than I thought. I recall the huge smile that you had even late at night. I know each day you are looking down on all of the Waxahachie PD Officers. I know your wife and family are doing well. I only wish I could have spent more time while working with Ron and the other PD Explorers working city wide events or ridding out. I will never forget your amazing turnout at your funeral. God Speed #121 and your are always 10-8 on every shift.

Regards,

I was one of the responding State Troopers to this scene, and also conducted the initial crash investigation. Terrible scene that night. But justice prevailed in the end. 55 year sentence and has to do 27 years before coming up for parole.

Josh,

Its Christmas day. I write this reflection with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes. We, your shift, are working today, as we have many many years before. But its different this time without you here. We all wish you were with us Josh, but we know that you are celebrating with our Lord on his birthday. I can only imagine the celebration that is taking place right now in heaven. I can see you smiling with that bright gold tooth and clapping your hands in praise. Your family is doing great, they miss you tremendously as im sure you know. Keep an eye on us buddy, we need all the help we can get in this crazy world we live and work in. We miss you and love you.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
