• A PART OF AMERICA DIED....
Somebody killed a police officer today .... And a part of America died…. A piece of our country she swore to protect .... Will be buried with her at her side.... The beat that she walked was a battlefield too,.... Just as if she had gone off to war, .... Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast .... To her name they will add a gold star.... The suspect that shot her will stand up in court .... With counsel demanding his rights,.... While a family must must struggle and work for her kids .... And spend many long, lonely nights... .. Yes, somebody killed a police officer today…. Maybe in your town or mine,.... While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors.... A cop put her life on the line.... Now her ghost walks the beat on a dark city street, .... And she stands at each new rookie's side; .... She answered the call… of herself gave her all,.... And a part of America died.

Rest in peace, officer Hollis. Though my own interactions were brief, I know you touched the lives of others I care for and many I have never known. Your courage and heart lives on. Blessings and comfort to your daughter; may she always know her mother as a powerful woman of heart who left this world protecting others as she had committed her life to doing. To all her brothers and sisters in blue who mourn this loss my heart is with you and I honor the risk you take everyday to serve and protect others. May none of us ever forget this, as we are much reminded by this ultimate sacrafice. Blessings, blessings, blessings.
