I was saddened to hear of the death of Officer Hollis, as I know many of her close friends at DPD. In her honor I would like to post this quote from Abraham Lincoln-
*****************************
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln
Officer Hollis laid down her life in an attempt to preserve another, which is the essence of the vow we all take as police officers. I hope that her family and brothers and sisters at DPD can find a way to heal from this senseless crime.

It was a sad day when I wrote
this last February and again
today 24 June 2012.
When an officer dies
a part of society dies,
a part of me dies,
a part of all of us dies.
A part of me,
a part of 'my family'
who wore the badge dies.
We know the hurt and
we hear the cries....
Why GOD why?
and he answers
because you serve
and some will die.
