Reflections for Police Officer Celena Charise Hollis

My thoughts and prayers to go out to Officer Hollis' family. It is becoming all to often that Officer are being targeted. People always tell me, "you chose the job" when talking about pay cuts and pension reform. My response is, "yes, because you did not" Thank you Officer Hollis and your daughter for your ultimate sacrifice.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Hollis,

I had the ultimate privilege to escort the U.S. Honor Flag from the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to the Texas/Oklahoma border this afternoon. As we speak it is on the way to you, being carried from officer to officer and from state to state. I want to thank you for your sacrifice and I pray for you, your family, your friends and your fellow officers with Denver Police Department. I consider my small part in this mission a great honor and holding that flag today makes one realize just how many great people have paid the ultimate price for our country. Thank you. You will not be forgotten.

Celena - I'll never forget the young woman with the big smile that walked into my office seeking a security officer job in early 2000. Although I did not hire you for the security officer position because I did not feel that suited your skills, we found you another position that you performed superbly at. Little did I know then that you had a real interest and desire to be involved in law enforcement. I along with so many that were touched by you are saddened by your passing, but know that you are now in a better place with your heavenly father. My condolences to your young daughter and your family, may they draw strength and comfort from God and knowing that they will see you again one day. You'll never be forgotten!!
