As a rookie in your basic law enforcement class you were always the top of your class. You also continued to be top notch in your service to your community. In addition to your family and friends, Bladen County suffered a tremendous loss.
As the Director of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) when you were a rookie, I remember how you were always seeking more than what was taught in basic training and always volunteering to assist. You continued your voracious search and giving your all, even on your last call. Thank you for your service. Thank you for being a top notch student and officer, always unwavering.
You are missed.

On behalf of the Wilmington Police Department Pipes and Drums, I wanted to express our condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Hester. We were honored to play at his funeral, although we sincerely hope there will never be another similar occasion. Unfortunately for Law Enforcement Officers in the United States, this will not be the last such occasion. God be with the survivors, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Hester. May the Lord bring you comfort in this great time of sorrow.

Thanks Dewayne for your service. We will never forget you and how you and Jeff looked out for us ladies at the DMV Drivers License office. You always stopped by or we would see you driving thru the parking lot checking up on us, you will never know how much it meant to us. You will be dearly missed but it's wonderful knowing you trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior and now you're strolling the streets of gold.

God has welcomed home another hero.
The hardest thing I do, is miss my son every day. The easiest thing I do is get on my knees and ask for God to help me through every day.
