Monday October 17th, 2022 marks the 125th anniversary of the passing of PO William F. Boyle.

Sunday, October 17, 1897
Officer Boyle was the first line of Duty death in Westchester County NY. Officer Boyle was electrocuted while clearing wires, leaving behind his wife and 13 children. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice to the Village of Dobbs Ferry.

I grew up hearing the story and seeing the picture of my Great Great Grandfather (He was my Grandfathers' Grandfather) in his uniform holding his wooden nightstick. He was shield #1, and his shield, nightstick and handgun are on display in the Dobbs Ferry Police Dept. I think it is greatly because of him that my Father served as a Probation Officer for 39 years, and in Jan. 1998 I became a Police officer in Dobbs Ferrys' neighboring Village of Ardsley. In Jan. 2007 my younger brother became a Police Officer in Ardsley as well. I am very proud to say he is my Great Great Grandfather, and hope to make him proud as well.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 112th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

How nice it is that this web site exists so that your family can honor you with a reflection.

I naturally never knew my grandfather. My father,James Boyle, was only five years old when his father died. Since I was a boy I remember my grandfather in my daily prayers.
It is my understanding that after a storm my grandfather would walk the board walks of the town, removing electic wires off the board walks before the citizens of the town went out. The wires would still be alive with electicity and a stiff solid copper. After moving one out of the way it sprung back landing on him. I understand he was the first officer killed in the line of duty, in Westchester County. If he was anything like my father he was a kind ,gentle man, who got the job done. At 69 years of age I am proud he was my grandfather. Yours, Jim Boyle.
