Rest in Peace Detective. I am currently trying to get into the traffic unit at my agency to prevent things like this. There is no reason that someone should die simply because they are DUI; especially for a cop. This is the type of thing that wants me to everyone to jail that is DUI.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of All Comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join them in their agonizing grief & remember them in my prayers.
Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.
Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.
Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.
Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.
We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.
The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.

I served with Jeremy in the Army in Italy and although we lost touch afterward I still remember what a great person he was. I'll never forget him teaching me to ski and other good times we had. My heart goes out to his family and agency for this tragic loss. REST IN PEACE BROTHER WE WILL TAKE IT FROM HERE.

TO:The family;loved ones;friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty,I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord,I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty,to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer ;and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well.AMEN.***REST IN PEACE

Losing you has stung the whole law enforcement community here in CO. I never had the privilege of meeting you, but my dad worked right next door in Sheridan. He covered you guys on calls from time to time and said you were a great guy. I can see that you were by how your colleges and family tell stories about you. God works in mysterious ways, sometimes we can’t comprehend his decisions, but we must accept them. May you rest in peace, may your wife and children find solace in knowing that you will still be with them every step of the way, and that they will be reunited with you again some day. May your children be a constant reminder to everyone that your legacy lives on. Your life’s calling was to help people, and impact them in some way or another. You succeeded beyond measure, be assured of that. Before I let you go, I wanted to ask you that you watch over all of the brothers and sisters in blue, and should they be called early, may you take them under your wing. I start the academy in August, and I will think of you every day I put my uniform on. God bless Officer Bitner. I salute you.
