Many Police Officers say that the difference between a "leader" and a "supervisor" is the a leader is willing to do the same tasks which he assigns his subordinates. In his final actions Chief Maloney portrayed that leadership. He truly exemplified what is written in Jonh 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends."
RIP Sir, and may God bless your family and all our brothers and sisters in the law enforcement family.

My thoughts go out to the entire familyof Police Chief
Michael P. Maloney. We know the risk which comes with putting on the uniform every day to go to work. We do the job for little pay, little thanks, we do the job because we love the people we serve.
May God comfort you from the pain you are enduring from the passing of your loved one.
Focus on the good times you had as well as how great of a husband, father, brother, and grandfather he was.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.

For Chief Michael P. Maloney:
The high-risk for the law-officer exists from the day one leaves training until the final day of service to others. The law-officer engages the uncertainty of duty on the day he or she is witness to losing a fellow officer. After that, a different person exists; a realization takes place. But, no protection is veritably rendered, not for the body - nor the mind. It can only be endured - never can it be explained.
We regret what has occurred regarding out brother Michael, but to be so short of ending a well-deserved retirement only increases the intensity of our grief. As soldiers-of-the-law we can only accept what God has apparently deemed to be so.
We pray for Michael's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another, including those who were close at his side this fateful day.
We are proud to render Chief Michael Maloney a final salute.
