Any death is a tragedy, but there are those who stand tall on the line between the worst in our society and those who strive to live peacefully. It's difficult for people grasp a tragedy like this on a daily basis. When it's so close to home it brings home the fear and uncertainty of tomorrow. Then we see that there are those standing the line still. Standing tall. They do that in honor of those who have fallen. It's my hope as a citizen that perhaps others will understand more, endeavor more to be peaceful, and perhaps show some respect. It is certainly earned. God rest Michael. I have only met him a handful of times at various scouting events, or city events but I will think on him fondly. As a former Police Explorer Sergeant I had the opportunity to work with Mike at a bike rodeo and I can tell you he is a standup guy.

I am deeply saddened by this. I retired on December 31st, 2011. To think that this fine Servant of the People and God will never get to enjoy the fruits of his long and difficult career saddens me. God bless him and St. Michael our Archangel and Patron Saint, welcome him into the Kingdom of Heaven to look over all police officers. Also look over the fellow officers that were also shot during the incident and keep them well. I salute you with the utmost respect Chief Maloney.
