Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Robert E. Boyett

As I sit in my house in Goldonna, Louisiana, there is an active search (4th day now) ongoing for a burglary suspect. This morning, he broke into a house in the Calvin area and stole two loaded weapons and a tractor. He ditched the tractor sometime later this morning behind the ag building at Calvin High School. As I reflect on the measures I have taken to protect my family, I can only imagine the potential danger our law enforcement officers are in right now. And that's for only one isolated incident, never mind the dangers they face on a daily basis. God bless those who serve, and a special blessing this Easter Sunday to all those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. America does not appreciate you - or our current officers - nearly enough.

To Mr. Boyett's sons - God bless you for your sacrifice. Even though it was long ago, I'm sure the loss never goes away. My family and I prayed for you tonight. God Bless

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 87th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I am the youngest son of Deputy Robert E. Boyett. My brother and I are still living. He is 84 and I am 81. The story of my father's death is in error. The perpertrator was not arrested . . . he was killed on the scene by Deputy Bryant Sholars, who although seriously wounded managed to fire three shots. Other officers also helped. Sholars became sheriff and served 24 years.
