This is so heart troubling, or touching might be the better word. The troubling part is hard to understand at times, but it does hurt the heart when a police officer goes down. We don't have to know an officer personally, at all, for it to hurt when one goes down. There is something precious about Law Enforcement Officers that none can replace, even despite what the "bad cops" can do to law enforcement reputation!
I totally agree with the above reflection from the Virginia State Police, and so touching is that letter! "No greater love hath no man than this......"
With a tear in my eye I would like to part with this last notion, I pray that I will meet a lot of earth's REAL hero's in heaven! May God help uplift all of Trooper Miles family, co-workers and friends at this sad time of loss.
RIP Trooper Miles

Wall-E ,
It's been a couple of days now and it still seams like a bad dream I can't wake from. How sureal it is that just before you went to change for work ,that you and I were standing in my drive way making plans to go do some things togather and less than 12 hours later God called you home . I never knew I could hurt this much .Know my brother we'll look after Mandy and the kids .There's a hole in Charles City that can never be filled, except with the everlasting memory of what a great guy and Officer you were.Thank you Mike for being my friend, mentor and brother and for the service you gave our coumuinty .
R.I.P Bro, untill we meet again,

I remember how you always said after retirement you were going to move to West Virginia, put a corncob pipe in your mouth, and work in a huge garden all day long. I can remember countless times that we've been on bad calls, and I was scared to death, but you made me laugh. Rest Easy Brother. Charles City misses you.

I had the great privlage of working with Mike at the Richmond Airport Police Dept and now working the next county over from him. I will miss running into him on the midnight shift at the local gas stations and sitting around talking about how our night was going. Mike was a great person and there was never a dull moment with him. He would always keep you laughing. Several times I backed Mike up when he called for assistance and no matter how chaotic the call Mike always made a point to come over and thank us for assisting. Mike may not be here with us in person but I know he will be looking down upon us keeping us safe. Mike you will truly be missed. May you rest in peace and god bless your family and the Charles City County Sheriff's Office.

Thank you brother for always being there, I wish I could go back in time and change our last night as partners. I'm going to miss your practical jokes, your sense of humor but most of all I'm going to miss my friend. You were and always will be an inspiration to us all. I will never forget you and the ultimate sacrifice you made for me that night. I love you and know you are in a better place. You rest in peace, we got the watch.

This has got to be the worst thing that can happen to a patrol officer while responding to assist another officer in need. Although I did not know Deputy Sheriff Walizer personally, I know in my heart, he was a wonderful person and my condolences go out to his fellow officers and family.

You were always able to get a smile or laugh out of anyone you came in contact with. Regardless of whatever situation that person was in, you knew exactly what to say or do. You have backed me up countless times before and to think of it, if anything ever went south, I would rather have no one else on my "six"...Whatever the call...whenever it was needed....you were always willing to drop what you were doing to lend a helping hand...I'm truly heart broken over this, and it will take some time to heal. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13...Rest easy my friend....We have the watch from here...

It's always hard when someone in L.E. is pulled away so quickly but even harder when it strikes home. I will always remember the times you, Brew, an myself had working together. When it came to your job you were top notch. It's hard to say god has a plan in times like these but only he has the master plan. Matt. 5-9 Blessed are the peace makers for they shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. I'll miss you brother. Have a ball till we get there. God Bless the family and Charles City County Sheriff's Office.
