Humor is something that anyone in law enforcement needs to keep sane, be it to pass long hours with little activity or push passed incidents of sheer terror, sights and sounds the average civilian will never and should never hear or simply to keep up each other’s spirits. It’s a useful and necessary thing and helps build camaraderie. Tragically, there are rare occasions it does not work out well. This was apparently one of those times.
You acted in a way that many before and after you have. What happened was a sad and awful thing but I know in my heart you do not blame the other Detective. On this 103rd anniversary of your death I believe you Rest in Peace Detective Cook and God Bless you for the years you gave to help protect the rails, one of the reasons this nation is as wonderful and prosperous as it is.
My heart goes out to the officer who mistakenly took your life. I pray he was able to come to terms with this tragedy rather than let it eat at him for the rest of his life. May he now also Rest in Peace and I also pray that he, you and Detective Cook had a reunion and reconciliation in Heaven.

I am privileged to be among the first to leave a reflection for you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 101rst anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace
