We came and paid our respect to a brave and loved Deputy yesterday and knew it would be impossible to attend today because the emotions of losing another officer in the line of duty is just too much to bear. We now must celebrate Deputy Barbara Pill's life and be comforted to know that she will live in our hearts forever. Until we meet again, REST IN PEACE and watch over your family and extended families. You ARE loved and will be missed but, NOT forgotten

Deputy Pill,
I didn't have the privilege to know you, nor have I any relation to the BCSO. However, living right here in Melbourne, so painfully close to where this tragedy happened, I have had several oppoturnities to pass by that growing memorial at the tragic spot where you gave your life in the line of duty. I've had a week to reflect on the incredible loss, and a week to reflect on just how much of a risk Officers take every day, just to protect us all. So many, too many, take that service and dedication for granted.
As I now sit, crying, hearing the bagpipes on this sad day, I make a solemn promise to you and your family: My children and I will never forget your beautiful face, your beautiful heart, and your brave dedication to keeping us all safe.
Our love, prayers, and utmost respect go out to both of your families--the loved ones you leave behind at home, and the family bound to you by calling.

For Deputy Sheriff Barbara Pill:
Our duty as law officers is fraught with high-risk and sometimes an encounter with those bent upon violence is sudden and without warning. We regret that our sister Barbara, especially after so many years of service, would be destined to such a violent end of a proud career protecting others. We now rely upon our system to mete-out justice at the appropriate time.
We pray for Barbara's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about her. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.
As a retired state trooper and Lake County (FL) deputy sheriff, I am proud to render Deputy Sheriff Barbara Pill a final salute.

God Bless Barbara, her family and friends. She will be missed by many at BCSO. I had the pleasure of working with her from the time she started at the agency as a PSA. I can honestly say I've never known another with more drive and determination and heart. She was quick with a laugh and a smile. She was the first one to embrace a challenge, and if she didn't succeed at first dust herself off and try harder. I for one will miss her terribly.
