Reflections for Sergeant Michael Todd May
Today has been especially hard Todd. Up until now I have been able to stay pretty strong. Just been keeping myself occupied. Work has gotten busy early because of the warm weather, so I dont have too many free minutes here. In fact, I should be writing work quotes right now, not on FB. And your basement took several days to clean out, so thanks for that. I really enjoyed the 80's weightlifting pants and cut off BUM half sweatshirt I found. We will just blame that on Ruscello. I have not felt bad for you until this past weekend. I have felt bad for mom & dad, me & my family, your fellow co-workers, and your friends. I have hurt for all of us, but not you. Because you lived life on your terms. But this weekend was different. As I am sure you know from above, Renee and I decided we would try to move into your house so we could be closer to mom and dad. We have spent last week cleaning and boxing up your stuff. That was pretty hard but I know we will see much of it again when we decorate the cabin. Other stuff I am going to give to your friends, keep for the kids, keep for myself (80's BUM sweatshirt), and donate to charity. I went five days straight finding no less than 100 rounds of some type of ammo hidden in every room of your house. The total count had to be in the 1,000's. Not to mention about three dozen knives and two bows. But dont worry, it has all been safely moved to a secure location for whatever revolution you were planning on, so I digress. I was saying this past weekend I felt bad for you. We spend all day Saturday working on your house. The kids loved it there. They played outside in the yard and rode their bikes on your patio. We walked up the hill to mom and dads a few times. They chased each other all over inside your house that evening. The sounds of their little feet pounding against the hardwood floor like drums beating. Once I had finished working for the day I sat on your couch and it hit me. The people who owned the house before you never had children. Nor did you. I know how bad you wanted a wife and children. You never made that connection. I realized that may have been the first time those sounds of little feet echoed through that house. You did so much in life and I wish you could have had that too. I do realize it was not part of God's plan for you. If it was, there would be a widow and fatherless children left behind from this tragedy. But it still made me think of how great of a father you would have made. If I could go back I would have made more time to have the kids around you. So many times we drove right by your house to take them fishing and didnt even stop to see if you wanted to go. I am sorry for that. They are going to miss so much. Canon told me last night he would miss you forever and that you were his favorite uncle. Bryiar prays to God and talks to you every night. As do we all. I cant imagine what mom is going through today. Dad too. But there is a bond between a mother and her child that is like no other. I pray that God will ease her anguish today. I have had tears free flowing ever since I awoke today. I can tell special days will be the hardest. Easter dinner without you will be tough too. But I know you would be pissed if we let what this man did to you take us all. So we will dig deep and find a way to continue carrying on. And every time the pain of reality knocks us down we will rise again. That is what you did every time something knocked you to the deck. You found a way to get back up and persevere, and we shall too. In your honor. God bless you and happy birthday Todd. I will see you again someday brother.

Every time I read of a brother officer from West Virginia being killed it makes me want to return to those West Virginia Hills, that we sang about every day that we spent on The Hill. I have been sadden too often by a West Virgina officers death. West Virginia produces some of the finest officers in the country and I am sure that Sergeant MAy was one of the best. Rest In Peace.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of all comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join you in your agonizing grief & remember you in my prayers.
Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.
Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.
Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.
Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.
We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.
The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.

Was in Morgantown for a Basketball Game the Saturday before this tragic incident and had the priviledge to eat dinner with Todd at Buffalo Wild Wings. We had a great time he had gone to the academy with one of the other officers I was with at the game. He seemed to enjoy life as he was showing us pictures of his hunting camp and invited us all up anytime as his door was always open. Only knew Todd for a short time and in that time knew he was a great person and a true LE brother. You will be greatly missed Todd, God speed and prayers to the family and Mon County SO.

I am merely a very saddened Monongalia County Citizen who did not know you personally but cannot get you and your family off of my mind. Your loss, Sargeant May, feels like a tidal wave through this community. As a Christian, I should not doubt God's Plan, but when someone so young and dedicated to protecting others is taken from us one cannot help be wonder...why? But then I quickly became certain that you saved yet another citizen's or many citizen's lives that night by making your final stop. Obviously God has bigger plans for you in his Kingdom above. And while your ultimate sacrifice was the act of a hero it is certainly one that is very difficult, for those who are left behind, to come to terms with.
Rest in Peace Todd May. Your loss is felt tremendously by all.

I have struggled for a long time about what to write here to honor one of my brothers. I remember you working at the ERJ and over time, lost touch. I didn't even know you had gone to Morgantown and became a Deputy Sheriff. My heart goes out to your family and the Deputies and officers you worked so closely with and your friends. I just want you to know that you can rest easy my brother, we have the watch from hear.
