Reflections for Trooper Russell Lynn Boyd

I played the sousaphone along with Russell in the Weatherford High School Band. I never had one bad moment with Russell or his brother David. Russell was one of the most honest guys that I had ever met.

I shall never forget Russell Boyd, he was and still is my FRIEND! death will not close my memory.

Yours Truly:

I was browsing the "Today in History" portion of the ODMP and saw the memorial for Trooper Russell Lynn Boyd. It was 22 years ago today that he gave his life for the citizens of the State of Texas.
I did not know Trooper Boyd but it makes no difference. We shared the life of the badge.
It is my prayer that his family, friends and fellow troopers have found a sense of peace from of this tragic event.
The men and women Texas Department of Public Safety are among some of the finest that law enforcement has to offer. May God keep them safe from harm as they carry out their duties.
Thanks in part to the ODMP for keeping the memories of folks like Trooper Russell Lynn Boyd alive in our hearts. He will always be remembered as a true American hero.

Trooper Boyd,
On today, the 22nd anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Texas. It took 4 more years, but your murderer got the justice he deserved.

I just wanted to leave a relfection to let the family know that Russell saved lives of more innocent citizens by giving the ultimate sacrifice. I just wanted to let the family know that acts of bravery such as this do not go unnoticed even as far away as state of Virginia. I was only ten years old when Russell gave his life doing what I now have in common with him...serving the public. Men like this are who I looked up to growing up and that is the reason why I am a police officer today. I looked up to men like him in law enforcement. They give those without a voice something to believe in. Right overcomes wrong but not without a price. God Bless the family.
