Reflections for Officer Garret Collin Davis

Whenever I hear of a fallen officer, my heart sinks, I hold my breath, my stomach hurts, I need to hold on to something until I hear the name of the fallen officer. I let out a sigh of relief once the fallen officer's name is not my son's. Then, it hits me a hundred times more because although I still have my son to hold and say I love you too, a mother...a sister... a daughter...won't have that privilige any longer.

To the family of Officer Garret Davis, please know that I as well as the entire state of Hawaii are grieving the loss of your son. My son, Jordan is 24 years young and graduated from the Honolulu Police Academy, a class before Garret. They were both highly trained and skilled at what they do. My son would have done the same thing Garret did that fateful night. Garret was taken from us too soon and so young. Please remember that he didn't die in vain because everything happens for a reason. He will be remembered for his unselfish act of saving the lives of the stranded couple on the highway that night and will forever be remembered by all the motorists who drive by the accident site to drive within the speed limit and not to drive recklessly. I am a strong supporter of new laws being created to prevent these senseless types of accidents from happening in Hawaii....That will be his legacy...

When you come to Hawaii for his final roll call tribute, please don't be surprised when you see the streets lined up with the people of Hawaii sending you and your family their condolences and their heartfelt gratitude to your son as your motorcade passes by. You don't know me, but I will be one of them...sending my Aloha...

Rest in Peace, Officer Garret Davis

Garret, we never got the chance to really get to know you, but like Ash'Leigh, you also gave us the most precious gift a man can give. Kenzie Rose stole our hearts from the very beginning. We see so much of you when we look at her. As I told you four years ago, you will always be a part of our lives because of her. The only gift we can give you now, is to rest peacefully knowing she is surrounded by love. Our hearts go out to your mom and sister.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
