Dearest Allison (previous contributor),
I apologize for offering a correction here in this forum, but feel I must set the record straight. Henry Clay Walker did not have a son named William Grant Walker, but a brother of that name. Their father, George Walker, did die while they were both quite young. So, Clay Walker was your father's uncle.
My father, C.D. Thomason, knew Clay Walker and remembers him fondly. He said Clay Walker was a fine man.

What a wonderful honor it is to see my great grandfather honored in such a wonderful way! I truly hate that I never knew this wonderful honor was ever given to him. I am the granddaughter of his son, William Grant Walker. I remember my papaw talking about his daddy dying when he was very young. I look forward to visiting this memorial on my next trip to D.C. Thank you for honoring him!
Respectfully,

My father just called me and said a friend from his hometown sent him the local newspaper with the article about my grandfather. My father, Walter Herbert Walker, is the only surviving son of Henry Clay Walker. I wonder why he was not notified of this honor regarding his father, who he had to do without from the age of 8? I live in Northern Virginia and going to this service on May 13, 2012 would have been very special had we known about it. He wants to come to DC and see his father's name on the wall at the Memorial. I'm just sad that he didn't get to be there for the dedication of this in respect of his father. Alot of the grandchildren are still in the area and this would have been a great honor for our family. My father is survived by four children that never knew their grandfather but heard the stories of him being sheriff from our childhood to adulthood. What an honor for our grandfather and my Dad is so proud of his Dad who he lost at such an early age. Thank you for honoring him in such a way and I am making a trip to DC to take pictures to send to my Dad who is now 82 years old.

I am honored that my administration was successful in obtaining your rightful place on the wall of the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington DC on May 13,2012. You gave your all on April 7, 1941 while the citizens of Morristown slept. Thank you for your valor.

In my previous reflection for you, I inadvertently listed an incorrect anniversary year, Your heroism and service is honored today which is the seventy-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.
