My family had met Ranger Anderson several times since she had been posed to Mt. Rainier, including one time when I could discuss with my son & daughter the importance of service, & that there was more to service to others than what their Dad did in the Army. We will miss her, and our thoughts & prayers are with her and her family.

As a former NPS ranger for 6 years, I understand Ranger Anderson's love for the outdoors and the National Parks. How blessed that she had the privilege to live and work in God's special places. She is now with the Lord having sacrificed her life, in order to protect others. May her family and friends take comfort in that.

“The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell”

Park Ranger Margaret Anderson, National Park Service (RIP)

I often say A Prayer for Those with such an assignment. They usually work alone, and often the nearest back - up is a long way off in rough terrain. As One who is the administrator for a Facebook Site Dedicated to Women - In - Uniform, it truly saddens me that my first addition to that site in Year 2012, is that of Someone Murdered In The Line - Of - Duty.

I could not even to begin to imagine how Her Husband (A Fellow Ranger), and Her Offspring must be thinking Today, while Others are celebrating The Rose Parade and other New Year’s - related events.

The only Drink which I shall have Today, will be as I am Alone, spending “Quiet Time, Dedicating A Toast to The Memory of Park Ranger Margaret Anderson (RIP).

May the dear Lord lift your little one's and let them see through you, Ranger Anderson. I also pray that He helps your husband to cope with all that was heard over the radio. Please let him not feel at fault. I pray for guidance in the coming years for the family and fellow park staff.

So sad the first day of 2012 has resulted in two officer deaths so far (Sergeant Abimeal Castro-Berrocales of the Puerto Rico Police Department being the other) may God Bless both families in this time of tragedy. We do not understand why this happened, but one day in God's presence we will know. I can say God does understand because he witnessed his own son be brutally killed so we could all be free.

Thank you for your service Ranger with love.
