Park Ranger Margaret Anderson served her agency and her country with the highest calling possible. I am sure she did so willing and knowingly and we honor her for the ultimate sacrifice she made to the call of duty.

To her family, may you know that you are supported by many, near and far. May her husband find peace in days ahead and may her children understand her duty and sacrifice as they grow up. Keeping the peace is not as simple and plain as it often sounds to civilians.

The days ahead will be difficult and the journey ahead will be
very different, but know that your faith and the support of those around you will get you through. Prayers go up for all of the family.

I want to express my sorrow to Park Ranger Margaret Anderson's husband, her two young children, her parents and to other members of her family. I also want to remember those who served with her at Mt. Rainier and her other friends who also love her. Margaret was a devoted wife and mother who loved life and lived it fully, with great love and passion. She laid down her life as a law enforcement officer, protecting and serving us. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

It is hard to fathom such violence occurring at such a beautiful place as Mount Rainier. Ranger Anderson put herself in harms way, not knowing what she was about to encounter. As it turns out, she stopped a killer from proceeding to a heavily populated Paradise Visitors Center where families and children enjoyed the mountain. Thank you Margaret, for your dedication to the NPS. From all accounts, you were an amazing, kind, generous, and loving person. May you and your family be surrounded by love and warmed with memories of you. Blessings to your family. This is so sad all around.
