Reflections for Park Ranger Margaret A. Anderson
I was a dispatcher for Margaret when she was at the C&O Canal NHP. She was a great person and was very protected of the park and its resources. She was always very cheerful and willing to provide assistance to anyone.
I will miss her a lot.

The events that led up your death are the fault of our national leaders. You did your job...right up to your last breath and that is where we stand on common ground. Your sacrifice will be the foundation for my outlook on this new year... Would you have given your killer mercy if the situation were different? Would you have rather gone home to your family that night? Will your life mean anything to the next animal to make the headline news? I could understand if this were an isolated event...but these crime are perpetuated by our laws.

My wife and I visit Mt Rainier NP several times a year. We remember Ranger Anderson from the times she was stationed at the entrance booth. She always had her trademark smile to greet us and wished us well during our visits. She will be missed.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit Mt. Rainier for the first time this past August. We had an awesome and safe time thanks in part to the dedicated service of Rangers like Margaret. To wake up reading this news was heartbreaking. We can only imagine the grief that the family must be feeling. To them and the Ranger service we offer our deepest condolences.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ranger Anderson's family. They now have an angel in heaven keeping watch over them. I always wanted to be a Park Ranger but became a teacher instead. The kids loved it when the park ranger visited twice a year. God bless you all. Rest in peace Ranger Margaret Anderson,

I am not an LEO, nor have I ever been, but my sister’s ex-husband worked for Visitor Protection in Olympic NP prior to his recent retirement. My sister worked as a commissioned Ranger for Resource Management in Sequoia NP in the late 1980s. I spent a summer working for the bear management program in SEKI in 1989. Commissioned NPS Rangers are the most erudite LEOs you will find anywhere in the world, and are among the most admirable human beings it has ever been my pleasure to associate with. I have no doubt that Mrs. Anderson was representative of the finest that our species has to offer. That she was taken from her family and community in this manner is too execrable to contemplate. I can personally say that I never been this affected by the death of somebody whom I have never met.

I am so saddened by the awful, tragic death of Ranger Anderson. And I am fearful for my son, who is with the Forest Service. Allowing guns in our National Parks and National Forests is unacceptable.
