As a ranger, and as the father of two small girls, I am deeply saddened by the loss of Margaret Anderson. I and my colleagues at Sardis Lake honor her service and extend our sympathy and condolences to her family and friends.

Because of this tragedy, I begin my first patrol shift of 2012 with a heightened awareness of what our work can cost. But, I will face the dangers and daily grind of the many patrols to come with renewed determination thanks to her dedication and sacrifice.

As a NPS VUA, I've seen first hand how important a role our LE Rangers play every day for every other worker in the park and our visitors/volunteers. Ranger Anderson acted the same way I've seen LEOs act at my park- brave, self-less and for the good of others. May God bless her family and friends with comfort and easier days. RIP Ranger Anderson, you're an inspiration and a hero.

Margaret - we were at kstate together and became lifelong friends. You are one of my wife's best friends and you were in our wedding almost 15 years ago. I can't believe it's been that long and I can't believe you're gone. I'm amazed at the outpouring of compassion here. It's like the whole nation is mourning with us, a sign of how many people's lives you touched. Thank you for your service. I'm lucky to have known you. You were always passionate and dedicated to everything you pursued. Always thoughtful, sincere and smiling. I know somehow, somewhere, God will enable something good and positive to come from this tragedy. We are praying for Eric, your little girls and the rest of your family. We'll remember you forever. Love from us in Texas.
