Reflections for Police Officer Specialist Timothy Brian Schock

Friends and family ask why we do it. With all the risks involved. With all the heartache and pain. We answer the same way everytime. Because we want to help. To bring closure to families of victims or more desired to save a life. The communities we live in need these services. If it was our family, we'd want someone to help.
In these times where one of use leaves in such a tragic way, our hearts go out to the family, friends and team members of the one who has fallen. We, as rescue divers, go to that next call or training dive with this event in our mind. In a way, Officer Schock is with us all.

I have known Tim for over 16 years. We started our law enforcement careers together on Nov. 1, 1995. We were classmates at the Chesapeake Police Academy and instantly became great freinds. Tim would light up a room with his personality. He was one of the funniest people I have ever known. I never met anyone who did not instantly love him. There are a handful of people in the world I can truly say that about. And if that's all you knew about him that wold be enough. I left CPD in 2001 to take a job with the government and Tim and I remained close. He was the type of guy you could not see for six months or more, and still pick up right where you left off. He loved his son, bicycling and his Vikings. He was a Marine. He was on the Honor Guard and the Dive team. HE WAS A COP's COP! My life is better for knowing him and I truly will miss my friend.

To the family and friends of Officer Scotty Timothy Schock, his fellow officers, and most especially to Officer Schock:

We honor your service to your community as a police officer and to your country as a Marine. As my son was your brother in green as well as blue, I bid you semper fi. You will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Timothy was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. To Timothy's family, you are in my heart's embrace today.

Each day that a police officer dies in the line of duty is tragic and heart wrenching, but I cannot help but think of the nightmare that changes a home decorated for the holidays and a household anticipating the joy of Christmas to a place of enormous grief and shock.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Timothy gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on December 20, 2011.

R.I.P. Officer Schock:

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts and we forgive
our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.
