Officer Crouse,
Words cannot express how much respect and admiration I have for you, and now therefore your family. Although I never had the privilege of meeting you, I know that your service helped keep students, and citizens, safe. I thank you so much for that. I'm sorry that you had to lose your life in a senseless and heinous act of violence and I know that you are watching over us and your family from Heaven. Rest in peace, knowing that the Hokie Nation has welcomed your family into our lives and will continue to support your family.

Thank you for your service Officer Crouse. Many think that there are no dangers for campus police but yet in the world we live in today, campus policing is just as dangerous as city or county policing.
Your brothers and sisters in blue have you and your family in prayers all across the world.
Thank you for protecting and serving others.

Rest in Peace Officer Crouse. All of us in public service can relate to the risks that are taken and daily we pray that none fall to them. Virginia Tech is a special community and the motto "Ut Prosim" is more than a slogan; it's a way of life for Hokies everywhere. God bless you and your family.

THE THIN BLUE LINE
Among us, sent down from heaven,
Are those that walk a Thin Blue Line, that's a given.
Like Guardian Angels to watch over me and you,
Are those that wear the uniform of blue.
We see them only as traffic stops,
We do not call them friends, just cops.
We pray we never have a chance meeting,
We never pass along a greeting.
But they are so much more than this,
They simply do not see the world as bliss.
But they look into the corners of our deepest fears,
They walk the beat, they wipe a tear.
They bring a message to our home,
When all is not well, and you are alone.
They come to us, no matter the need,
Handle the problem, complete the deed.
They lay their personal feelings aside,
They do their job, they have great pride.
And if one should fall, among life's things.
The badge they wear, turns into wings

Rest In Peace Officer Crouse. You are in Hokie Heaven looking down on us while continuing to keep a watchful eye out for things that may danger us. Thank you for all that you did for the Tech community, we are a better place because of it. You died while maintaining our motto of "Ut Prosim" and for that I am greatful. And just know that your wife and kids have all the support and prayers in the world from the strong and loving community that is Virginia Tech!

The Final Inspection
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer Crouse,
Thank you for devoting your life to keeping us safe. Your service and commitment to the ideals of "Ut Prosim" are appreciated more than we can ever express with our words or our gestures. Our university and community will never forget the selfless sacrifices you have made to keep us safe. Your time on this Earth has passed, but know that your duty is far from over; you have become yet another person in heaven trying to explain just exactly what a Hokie is.
May you rest in peace.

Thank you so much for your service. I believe saw you an hour before, and you gave me such a genuine smile, even thought we have never met. Every time I think about this awful day, I will hold that vision close to my heart. I cannot express my gratitude towards you, VT police, Blacksburg officers, and every other person that risks his or her life to protect others. My heart goes out to the Crouse family, and you will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they know that they have an entire Hokie Nation to lean on, not just now, but for the rest of their lives. Thank you again. neVer forgeT.
