I’ve known Jim for nearly two decades. Jim had a quick wit, very dry and sometimes abrasive sense of humor that kept me rolling. If you did not want to know how Jim felt about something, you did not ask him a question. Sometimes you didn’t even need to ask him a question and he would give you a candid response. Even writing this now and reflecting, he is making me laugh.
Jim was the embodiment of the warrior soul. Jim loved his beloved Marine’s and always gave me crap for having served in the Army. However, he would always follow-up his bashing with a mischievous grin, a twinkle in is eye and say with a sarcastic chuckle, “I still like you even though you weren’t a Marine….hoorah, Semper Fi….BC!” And I’d reply, “I may not be a Marine, but I’ve never been AAA with a badge like you.” We’d both laugh.
Jim was an OUTSTANDING Police Officer, who was very proud of his father and was a great legacy. His father would have been very proud of Jim. When Jim logged onto his cruiser MDC at the beginning of his shift he always logged his father on as his “rider.”
Jim was an equally proud husband and father. He brought his daughters on ride-a-longs with him, he brought them into Patrol briefings, watched him interact with his coworkers and got to hear “stories” I’m sure they will appreciate in the future. Jim was also very proud of his Vallejo HS girls Basketball team and their accomplishments. Jim had a heart of gold, he liked people to think he was a toughguy and he was tough, but under that tough exterior, he was one of the kindest and most generous men that you would ever meet.
One thing that demonstrates his generosity is, not too long ago, Jim and his wife, Jennifer, took in two children of long time family friends who had died in a motorcycle collision and treated them as their own.
Jim was very honest, loyal, honorable, energetic, dedicated and a class act, just to mention a few attributes. Jennifer, we will always be here for you and the girls (or should I say women). Girls…remember you are a Capoot, your Dad will always be watching over you Semper Fi Devil Pups…hoorah!!
Jim…..I’m proud to have known, worked and socialized with you. Don’t forget to introduce your Dad to mine, tell Jeff hello and we still miss him, like we always miss you too. I’ll see you all sometime down the road. I’ve got your six Devil Dog, Semper Fi 497!!!
With Love, BC and Family

I am very sorry to hear of officer Capoots death. Keeping up with the online news about the events in Vallejo, the city has certainly changed with size and problems from when I lived there in 1961. To lose a dedicated family man and officer to a person that chose a life to make misery for others is truly unconscionable. I can't imagine the terrible pain that the Capoot family is going through.
It is wonderful to read, that the community and fellow officers are giving great support to his family.

In your last moments on earth, I heard you, from my anonymous workroom in an anonymous house in a quiet neighborhood of this sad old town. I, a fellow human being who never met you, somehow was fated to listen to the sound of your voice on the air, as you pursued evil through a random backyard on that sunny afternoon, rushing forward to your death.
I heard the voices of your friends, in anguish, calling for help, knowing it would do no good, hoping against hope that they would not lose you. And as the bitter reality of what I had heard sank into my heart, I cried for you, and for them.
Thank you, Officer Capoot, thank you so much--for your sacrifice, for all your years of hard work, for all that you tried to do, for all the people you tried to help, for all your kindness and courage and caring, for being a beacon of light in this sad old town, in this dark and dirty world.
You really did make a difference. And even though I didn't know you, reading everything that those who loved you have said about you makes me wish I had. I know you will never be forgotten, and that you've left a beautiful legacy. You sounded, to quote a favorite old movie of mine, like "a hell of a man"; Vallejo could use an army like you, but I figure we were lucky to have you at all.
Wherever you are, I hope that your soul has come to terms with the shock of your sudden passing, and is at peace, watching over your loved ones until it is their time to join you. A heartful of sympathy is all I can offer them in their sorrow, but I know they will find strength to sustain them in their memories of you.
Warm blessings of light and protection to all those still here, bereft of you, missing you. May they also find peace, and healing.
Blessed be.
