Jim would always be the guy that always had a smile on his face when you saw him. Everything he did, he was so passionate about it. Which always included doing something for someone else, from the drag racing at the track to coaching the girls at Vallejo High. I am glad that everytime I saw him it was always a fun time. You will be missed so much Jim.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:6-9

Officer Capoot, you are a brave hero who sacrificed your life for what you believe. I'm sure you gave no thought of your own safety as your mind was set to apprehend a criminal and remove him/them from the streets. No loss of life ever comes at a good time, but so close to the Holiday Season is exceptionally hard for your wife, daughters, immediate family and your family of LEO's. May God help them get through the rough road ahead but rest assured, you will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace and join with all the Officers who are a part of a very special group of individuals. However the price to pay for acceptance into this group is far too high!

To the family and friends of Officer James Capoot, his fellow officers, and most especially to James:

We honor your service to your community of Vallejo as a police officer and to our nation as a Marine. You will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when James was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him on this site and as reported in the media.

I learned of James' death yesterday as this awful news spread throughout the law enforcement survivor community. Heaven has another hero, but my heart still aches for the pain his family, his department, and friends are enduring.

Vallejo is a small department, and for some of the veterans,it is the second time they have had to face the death of a brother officer. My thoughts are with them today for I know they have their own anquish. I pray for solace for all those who call James beloved ...his wife, his daughters, his other devoted family members, his fellow officers, his friends.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of distinquished service James gave to his community and the citizens of California, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 17, 2011. As my son was his brother in green as well as blue, I also bid him semper fi.

I KNEW OFFICER CAPOOT SINCE I WAS TEN YEARS OLD. HIS SISTER (DANA CAPOOT CUDD) AND I ARE BEST FRIENDS. HE WAS A TALL, SKINNY KID BUT GREW TO BE A STRONG YOUNG MAN AND THEN A VERY MUTURE MAN. WHEN WE WERE ALL IN OUR TEENS HE WOULD TORMENT HIS SISTER AND I ALL THE TIME. HE WAS VERY PROUD OF HIS FATHER (JAMES LOWELL CAPOOT) WHO PASSED IN 1994. HIS FATHER WAS A FELLOW OFFICER FOR THE LITTLE ROCK POLICE DEPARTMENT AND RETIRED. JIM FOLLOWED IN HIS FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS BECAUSE HE BELIEVED WHAT HIS FATHER HAD DONE WAS WHAT HE SHOULD DO. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM IN A WAY THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE PROBABLY WILL NOT. HE WAS A BRIGHT AND HAPPY CHILD THAT GREW INTO A MAN AND SHOWED HIS CHILDREN THIS MEMORY I HAVE OF HIM. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS FAMILY AND MY BEST FRIEND OF 36 YEARS. MAY GOD LOOK UPON YOU AND HELP YOU FIND REASON IN SOMETHING THAT IS NEVER REASONABLE IN OUR MINDS.
