Reflections for Detective Robert Shane Wilson
The Snapfinger Creek bridge at I-20 near the accident was dedicated with a memorial sign to Shane. Construction is going on there currently and I, for one, want to make sure it's put back when complete.

Shane
Sir it has been my honor to get to know your mom on this FB page we met on watching a trial. She’s incredibly strong. We got to talking about what my husband does and she got to tell me about her loss of you. Thank you for you service. Please watch over my husband as he patrols the streets here on earth. Your mom and I talked about her loss of you and my loss of my brother. Maybe you’ve met up there. I’ll tell my brother to go find you.

Shane,
I was honored to ride along side your mom during the Police Unity Tour. What a wonderful woman! I am inspired by knowing her, and I know you were very loved during your years here with us. Please keep her and all of us in your heavenly prayers. You will remain in my heart until (with any luck) I join you and all the heavenly heros. Blessings to Gayle and Jim, as well as all your extended family.

Shane, a group of us from Team Buddy Christian Foundation stopped by your graveside on the way back from doing a training ride at Arabia Mountain. We just wanted spend a few moments reflecting on your service and sacrifice. In a few short weeks, your mom will join us as to ride bicycles across the great state of Virginia to your name on the National Memorial in DC. We remember you!

Hey Shag , just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts everyday of my life. Your Mom and I talk about you everyday. I normally pick Liam up from school everyday and he does homework with your Mom. On his days off from school I try to find something creative or entertaining for he and I to do together. I cannot tell you just what an amazing young man he is. A great student, a loving son and grandson, the best attitude and a God loving Christian. You can be proud. I love you and miss you!

Hey brother,I was just thinking about ya again. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about us in swat school, or rifle class or on a swat op. We had a class a few weeks ago,and me and Woody still saved your seat with us. I have to apologize though, I wasn't able to attend a few functions in your honor because of prior engagements. We're heading to Washington in a few days for police week to honor you and Hugo. So keep an eye out for us. See ya soon.

To Det. Shane Wilson,
I did not know you in the person you were. I have only come to know you through the writings of your family, friends, fellow LEOs and those from the community you served. Today I light a candle in your honor, call out your name, and in doing so know that your are received In Honor among our Fallen Brothers and Sisters. Rest in Peace, Brother, you stand guard with the Fallen Elite among us, and your name is not silenced by time...We Will Never Forget.

Swil, I was talking to someone the other day and I told them it doesn't seem real that you are no longer with us. I told them that I still expect you to walk through my office door and crack a joke any day now. Actually that's not you though, you didn't come in until you were called and you never cracked on anyone unless they cracked on you. You were a good police officer and a great detective. As far as the SWAT team, we miss you and we aren't the same without you. We tried to get back into the "groove" but we can't find it. I want you to know you were a great SWAT operator and I could always depend on you for whatever the task. Even though I had never met them before, I have met and got to know your family and I will tell you brother, people dream everyday of having a family like that. But then again, to be the person and police officer you were, there had to be good people supporting you. As far as what happened, I have no words, everyone always says things happen for a reason, but i can't think of one. I do believe "what goes around, comes around" I know you are in peace now so let us handle that, and do me a favor, watch over the rest of your brothers and sisters and keep them safe. See you on the other side and remember to watch out for those video cameras!

To Gayle
My heart broke for you when I read your reflection to your beloved son on his birthday. I have had so many of those feelings and some days I truly feel I cannot get through the pain of losing my cherished son, yet somehow I do. You are in my heart's embrace today. Your son will be honored in D.C. this year along with all the other officers whose names are being inscribed on the wall. Both the pain and pride are forever, but then so is our love.

My dear sweet son, I just spent your birthday without you for the first time in 28 years. My heart hurts. You were taken from me 4.5 months ago and it feels like that same day when my life was shattered forever. I don't know who I am without you. I'm trying my best to be strong for Katy and Liam but I fear I'm not doing so well. Everyday I walk in the bedroom you grew up in, where your pictures hang and I turn on the lamp, look at your pictures and talk to you..it's the first I do each morning and the last thing I do each night. Once I've begged you to visit in my dreams I turn off the lamp, pray for sleep. I cannot see a future without you. They pain will always be here and I am changed forever. You were my purpose in life. I was a mom and you my only child. Now what?

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Detective Wilson. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Shane he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Shane's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Shane's life was about so much more than the way he died. Shane will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Detective Wilson, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been nine years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
