Reflections for Deputy Sheriff George Dean
Rest in peace knowing that no passage of time will ever erase your service and sacrifice.
Detective Cpl/3 Steven Rizzo
Delaware State Police (Retired)
August 27, 2020
Deputy sheriff George Dean was shot and instantly killed by A.L. Crabtree at a ball game, which was in progress at Coxton, near here, Sunday afternoon. It is said the spectators were crowding the line, when Dean requested them to stand back. Crabtree became enraged and the shooting followed.
The first shot took effect near the heart and, falling to the ground, Dean raised his head sufficient to shoot at Crabtree. Another shot him in the mouth, which proved fatal. Crabtree, and his son, Otto, were arrested. His daughter, Mary, is also implicated, but at this writing had not been arrested. It is said there had been previous trouble between them.
