Brad and I were co-workers prior to him becoming a police officer. He was the nicest guys and a co-worker of integrity. He made work fun while serving the customers and his co-workers with great respect. Brad seemed so young-he went to high school with my daughter. My prayers are with his wife and children, and to all those who serve in the daily war on the streets. Thanks for your heroic service! Brad, save a place for me in heaven. I will be there soon!

We all know it’s always there. As we are looking out the windshield rolling out of the parking lot it’s looking in at us. It hears us breathe. It smells the coffee we drink. It hears us laugh. As we rumble down the streets going to a call it follows after us, it hears the dispatch, it hears our reply. Its waiting. It knows our name. It knows our badge number. You fought the brave fight. You gave your life so it could not rob that of another. You did not go silently into the night you roared the cry of salvation. You are a hero that was called too soon. Now you sleep the eternal sleep of the warrior who died in a battle that others now need not fight. The pain of your loss is for all of us to feel, to suffer. The eternal grace of god shines upon you, may its warmth offer a measure of comfort to your family and the brave brothers and sisters who served with you and will miss you.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
