Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James David "JD" Paugh

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.

We dont know why things happen the way they do, but knowing that you have always been loved by family, friends & co-workers, will make you go way beyond the call of duty to do your job, and set an example for others to follow.
Your service to your Department, Community, and Country has been greatly appreciated. Well done my Brother of the Badge, you answered the call, that others couldn't answer.
Well done Courageous Servant, well done.
Your gone but not forgotten.
All gave some, but some gave all.
Thank you for your service and protection.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

J. D. I know you are in a better place , so my prayers go out to your family that is left behind. It's so hard to understand the actions of the Army man. He must have had some pain of his own and instead of turning to God he took it out on your Son, Husband and Father. I know it's hard to believe right now, but it does get easier.Thats not to say years down the road you won't still have tears it just becomes more bearable with time. God Bless you amd all his Police and firefighter friends. I know they work hand in hand to keep us safe. I am the daughter of a Retired/ Deceased U.S. Army M.P. and Safty Director of Johnson Control Ft. Gordon, Ga.

Officer Paugh~

The lives you've touched, never again the same
gone too soon, but forever remember your name
Another unsung hero, not asking for praise
receiving much less in return than you gladly gave.

May you rest in peace and know that your service to your community was NOT taken for granted but appreciated in many many ways.

I hated to hear about this, J.D. Especially after you'd survived all those years on that motorcycle. You were a decent guy, and nobody will forget you.

My heart goes out to Deputy Paugh's family. I was truly touched watching his funeral service, today. He was certainly a hero. He went over and beyound his duty as a cop. He saved lives everyday on his job but Sunday night no, doubt he saved many lives and gave the ultimate price, his life. This really hit home for me I am a 63 year old grandmother that has a 20 year old grandson that is about to graduate from Police Academy. Wasn't what I or some of the family wanted for him but no changing a mind of someone that wants to save lives and as my grandson said, help people. Well, it takes men like Deputy Paugh and my grandson that keeps us safe from fear, as they mentioned, today. My prayers are for all the officers and soon to be some new rookies to take the place of the one's retiring. Teach them all you can so they can keep themselves save and the civilians of Augusta. Thank you Deputy Paugh for being a "HERO".

Deputy Paugh, you were off duty yet you stopped to help. You were shot yet you returned fire and managed to wound the pile of human waste you had inadvertently encountered. That "thing" will be forgotten, YOU will live on. You are a true hero.

God Bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.
