I dont know you, never had the honor to meet you, but as a daughter of a police officer, a fellow public safety employee, and most of all a mom of 2 lil boys, I want to thank you for the serice you have provided. Before you left us, you took a bad man off the streets and for that I thank you, you continue to protect our community even when you are leaving your family behind. May your family find peace and strength in knowing that becuase of you there is one less bad guy on the streets. You are a hero and will be remembered with great honor. thank you..with love~ christi

Depuy Paugh was a fine deputy on his way home from working a special. Although he was not dispatched, he observed what appeared to be a citizen in need of assistance and stopped to help. Before he could even place the kickstand down on his motorcycle, he was fired upon. JD was able to return fire but after being shot multiple times was not able to survive. He is in our heart, thoughts and prayers as are his family, friends and all members of the RCSO.
They always knew they could be
They never thought they would be
God knows none ever should be
Killed in the line of duty
... Some made their final stand
Their profession’s last demand
They fell with gun in hand
Killed in the line duty
A routine to many a cop
Some made one final stop
Someone’s Mom or Pop
Killed in the line of duty
Others answered one last call
To a robbery, theft, or brawl
They arrived only to fall
Killed in the line of duty
Some were dressed in brown, some blue
Some in gray, and plain clothes too
Some were dressed like me and you
Killed in the line of duty
May their souls be forever blessed
For they who are now at rest
Died doing what they loved best
Killed in the line of duty
Forgotten they never could be
Forgotten they never should be
Thought they never would be
Killed in the line of duty
God bless all those who fell
They are missed and loved so well
Let us pray and toll the bell
Those killed in the line of duty
Amen
"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
... Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

JD .....when i received the text about your passing I was in disbelief , so many memories of you flooded my mind , I am saddened that we have lost you my friend and in such a senseless way ...the last time i saw you was sitting in the computer room doing a report with the general chit chat about the people that cant seem to drive around here ....I cant imagine what must have been going through your mind as the first shot rang out ....I only know that none of us here on the department will ever forget you my friend and we will for years to come tell stories about you and the things that you said and did ....Rest peacefully T-31............

Thought and Prayers are out to the friends, family of JD and to the Richmond County Sheriff's Department. I have already heard several stories of what kind of person JD was - all of which was good. Law enforcement lost a good one today. RIP.

As an ex-motor officer I know how critical the time and the danger is just as you're bringing your motor to a stop behind an offender. You did good brother, returning fire on the suspect evenm after being mortally wounded. God bless you and your family.

Deputy Paugh (JD), was a deputy that loved everything from his heart. He was committed to whatever he did and a friend to all. He loved his family, friends and knew how to have fun and never met a stranger. He took his job serious and was committed to it. He will certainly be missed and was loved by all. RIP JD and I know God has a special place for you. You will be missed by many but never forgotten. My prayers to the family and friends who have heavy hearts this morning. JD God as well as all those you left behind are honoring you and If I could speak for God I am sure he is saying "Well done, you are a good and faithful servant".
