I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Paugh. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for JD he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember JD's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that JD's life was about so much more than the way he died. JD will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Deputy Paugh, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been nine years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

J.D.,
Its been a little over a month now but it seems like just yesterday we were waking up on a Sunday morning and hearing the dreadful news. There isnt a day goes by that your name isnt mentioned at the sub or at the L.E.C.. We sure do miss the hell out of ya man. I know you saw it all from above but the community sure stood proud of you as did we. Take it easy upstairs man and we will see you again one day. Dont forget us because we sure will never forget you. We miss ya buddy.

For anyone who believes the police have lost their way...this man reflects the commitment that we all want to have. Taking his own time he stops to help someone in need, and the "victim" takes his life. You will be honored in heaven brother! No one can take that from you.

How many times do we as citizens pass by others thinking, wait until a police officer arrives, they can safely take care of whatever. This just shows that an officer never knows what he's going to find when he approaches a vehicle like that. And we think it's safer for him? God Bless this officer and all others like him that take those risks every day.
I was once blessed on an Interstate highway when a state trooper stopped to change a tire for me. Took him 20 minutes, would've taken me forever. I could've been in trouble if the wrong people had stopped to"help me". I sent him a gift card for a restaurant where he and his wife like to eat.(he in no way requested it) It doesn't really seem like enough does it?
