"A Policeman was killed last night"

A policeman was killed last night.
He died while protecting your rights.
His creed was to protect and serve.
This fate he didn't deserve.

A mom and dad have lost a son.
So many other jobs he could've done.
His wife and kids are left alone.
Their daddy won't be coming home.

His fellow officers are hurt so deep.
For a fallen brother they weep.
The morning paper will print a story.
About a policeman who died in glory.

The flags will fly at half mast.
Politicians and citizens will seem sad.
The funeral is tomorrow at noon.
It will all be over very soon.

By next week they will have forgot.
That a policeman was killed last night.

It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye at this time. We met you came into the NCCPD family. I spoke with you many times until I left the communications division in 1999. You were always upbeat and a person I will always be privileged to have know you. We at the Delaware State Fire Police join our fellow brothers and sisters in the State of Delaware and the nation in offering our condolences to the Szczerba family and the New Castle County Police Department. Thank you for your service to the community.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Szczerba. He is one of the finest leaders I have ever served with who understood the importance of leading from the front. Szczerba was a new Sergeant when I first got to know him. He responded to every call, and had my back in countless situations. I quickly came to realize that on every complaint I responded to he was either there ahead of me or on his way. His calm demeanor, kindness, and experience offered countless lessons on not just how to be an excellent police officer, but on how to be a decent human being. He put his troops first and is one of the few leaders whom I would follow anywhere, into any battle, against all odds. He was a mentor and an inspiration to me and I am so thankful for having gotten the opportunity to know such an experienced yet gentle warrior. To my NCCPD family: I may no longer wear the uniform but you are all still very much in my heart. Thank you for the job you continue to selflessly do each and every day.

My prayers go out to all who knew him..We tend to forget how Police Officers put their lives in danger for us EVERYDAY..not just while on duty...they do it 24/7...
As a wife to an officer who became disabled on the job.. I know what it is like to worry it might happen one day....

Pleas remember all our Officers whether Killed in line of Duty,Disabled in Line of Duty, working 24/7.. we should always pray for their safety....

God Bless his family and all that knew him.
