Joe, I'm sitting here perusing the ODMP site as I try and do everyday and of course here you are. It's hard to believe it's been nine years today and as I have conveyed to others, I remember waking up that morning and watching this pop on the news. Sitting here reliving that morning and the funeral is as gut wrenching today as it was back then but I also know that NCCPD carries on in your memory with the many outstanding men and women who serve. Rest in peace and always know that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Heavenly Father, provide for this hero's family. Give them all the peace that is necessary to sustain them in this time of sorry. Bless them with the Holy spirit and heal their hearts from all the pain. Bring honor and glory to this hero and warrior of battle. Just like our fighting men overseas protecting our country aboard from evil, Lieutenant Szczerba fought within our country to protect the public against evil doers. His Department honored him by promoting Lieutenant Szczerba to his present rank and providing him with the highest Police Department Medal there is.......The Medal of "Honor." Rest in peace my fellow brother in blue. You have made a difference in this world. The contribution of your life warrants the highest respect and admiration. Semper Fi, Lt. Peugh (R-Oklahoma)

From a citizen: Thank you SO MUCH for being there to protect us. We live in a violent and scary world, and where would we be without heros like you to protect us? I pray for yor fellow officers out there who get up each day and put on that uniform, never knowing if they will return home at the end of their shift. It seems like everyone is carrying a gun these days and its so dangerous to go to the places officers have to go to on a daily basis. I pray for each and everyone of you. God Bless You Lt. Szczerba, Rest In Peace with the Father
