Ryan,

I was in absolute shock when I heard the news. You were a great person and an awesome partner. I knew it was going to be a fun shift when I was working with you. I'll always remember the fun times we had at work, the Scoreboard and Chippewa Lake.

My heart goes out to your family and co-workers. Your brothers in Rapid City were blessed to work along your side, just like I was. Rest in peace brother, we have the watch from here.

Ryan,
You were a friend, brother and mentor and will be truly missed. It was an honor and privilege to work the same streets with you, many times on the same call. You were a professional and always carried a smile. Thank you for clearing the path for us to follow.

You will be truly missed, but never forgotten. Miss you bud!

To Nick and Tim: Stay strong and keep fighting. My thoughts and prayers are with you too.

"Angels In Blue"
I had this friend you see, who loved
God, Country, You and me.

My friend went to work day or night
the peace to keep, so you and I could sleep.

He worked the holidays and weekends,
away from family and friends.
To keep this peace for you and me.

Each day this friend put his life on the line
to spare yours and mine.

Then one day he paid the price, he gave his life.

You've done well my friend, patrolling these earthly streets.
Now it's time to walk on Heaven's beat.

The next time you see a Police Officer or two,
remember they are one of God's Angels in Blue.

And God said; "Blessed are the Peace Makers."

By Lieutenant Stanley Hascher

To sacrifice their lives for you
They are eternally in your debt
The sacrifice, you do not regret

The City of Rapid City has lost a wonderful Officer; Heaven has gained an angel. Ryan was a wonderful individual who helped anyone who needed it and went out of his way to offer his assistance. Thank you for your bravery, your selfless service to our city, and for being the person you were.
May God bless your fiancee and family with peace.

I was so sad and hurt when I read about this. Another similar story to mine and may God comfort Ryan's Fiancee during this horrible time. It is a long road we have to walk down, but never think for a second you are doing it alone. <3 My prayers are with you. <3

I did not know Ryan but I know his very special sister, Megan. She is a teacher in the room next door to mine. I am certain that Ryan was as wonderful in his profession as Megan is in hers. My heart aches for Megan and the rest of Ryan's family and loved ones as they endure the pain of losing him. Please be assured of my prayers during the daunting days, weeks and months ahead.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Rest In Peace and God Bless
