That is the story of a true hero. Saving those who can not save them selves. Your family and department should be proud and always tell your story. I pray that in that same moment I would have the same courage to save that confused girl.I pray that she lives a meaningful life thanks to your sacrifice and understands the true meaning of love from the love that you showed her that day. Take it easy brother.

Deputy Gross - as citizens under your jurisdiction and business owners in converse county we thank you for your loyal service. Your brothers and sisters in service have assisted my employees many times and made sure they go home safe nearly every night when the days are short and the nights are long. The men and women of the Converse County Sheriff's Department are all brave souls and we thank you for your service. I wish we had met you. You will be sorely missed, especially by the youth of Douglas who you cared about and volunteered with in your time as a part of our community. Rather than mourn you we will carry on your memory and seek ways to make the youth of our community stronger so that something of this nature never happens again.

Thank you again Deputy Gross. Thank you to his parents and family for raising such a strong and brave man. Rest in peace with the angels and saints in heaven.

Deputy Sheriff Bryan Gross did not hesitate to jump into the river to save the life of a teenager. I am so sorry that this act ended as it did for he and his family and his brothers and sisters in blue. The bond that law enforcement have no matter their geographical location is the same bond that makes them hurt so much when this happens. But they will carry on and they will be there for the family. That is what they do and that is who they are. Thank you for your unselfish act Deputy Gross. I know you have much support where you are now, and you will still be with your family and your coworkers.

You will all be in my prayers.

Widow of NYSP Investigator
