Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Richard Joseph "Rick" Daly
I lost a family member in law enforcement 6 years ago. I personally wanted to know why. I wanted time to change, and things to be different. The flood of emotions was like nothing I had experienced before. The healing process is slow, and many situations open the scabbed unseen wound. The one thing that has always help me get through is thinking about all the people that he helped during his career, and the lives he touched or changed.
Unless you are in their shoes, no one understands the life of an officer. The other side, is the family that the officer looks forward going home to.
I know that public service members have a special place in heaven.

I had taken that day off to celebrate my birthday when i received a call that this tragedy had happened. I immediately made contact with my team and instructed them to be 10-76 to the location. My heart bled as i drove up among the hundred of officers and blue lights. As i made my way to the command post and looked up at your vehicle and the perps car, i noticed your vest and duty belt lying on the ground. I knew then that i had to stay on scene until the person responsible for this senseless act was caught. May your family be strong and know that they will see you again. Rest in peace my brother. We are often under appreciated and under paid, but there are some people that know without us the world would be unlivable.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

You were born a warrior! You devoted your life to saving others, loving others and putting others before you! Your love for your community, our country and perfect strangers is pure, dedicated devotion! You died protecting and serving others, it was in your blood, as it was in mine. It was what you did and it will always be what you are! No EVIL, No DEMON will ever take that from you! You woke that fateful morning and put your hero suit on to save the world from evil! You looked EVIL in the eye!! Heaven needed a HERO too, that's why God chose you!! God Bless you, Deputy Daly!! You are walking a different beat in Heaven with the same hero suit on, with God as your Commander and Chief!!
Deputy Daly you are 10-42 E.O.W

I will miss that smile and those morning chats at breakfast and in the parking lot prior to start of shift. You were always the first to volunteer to help anyone. I can still hear that, "I got it LT, I got it." Go rest high on that mountain Rick, I got it my friend, I got it.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me that he only takes the best....

I want to thank Mr. Daly for performing a duty that is so undercompensated and underappreciated in our country. You must have been very brave and devoted to your community to risk your life for them. I have one brother who is a police officer that lives 3 hours from me and another brother who is a police officer and is also on the SWAT team in my community. I pray for their safety on a regular basis. I have attended funeral services and memorials for fallen officers and it tears my heart up to know that a family had to give up their loved one to protect me--to protect all of us. I am grateful for his service and I pray for peace and healing for his family and friends.

As the Mother of a Son who is a Deputy here in Georgia, I would like to express my deepest condolences for your loss. I just cannot imagine what you must be going through at this time. Just know that he lost his life doing what he loved....."to protect and serve". And....he will continue doing that at the Cross of Jesus. I get these notifications all of the time, and I try to respond to each one of them,...but....when it's in GEORGIA.....it REALLY HITS HOME!!! YOU are MY family NOW, and I just want you to know that you are all in my prayers. I just pray that you will look to God to guide you through this tradgic time, as well as the days to follow. I know that what I have to say will not bring Deputy Rick back.....just KNOW that I DO CARE, as....GOD KNOWS.....I do NOT want to "receive that phonecall or visit"! My Son is a deputy in another town, about 4 hours away from me. He is my ONLY child. I just can't STAND the thought that ANYTHING would happen to him! YOU ARE ALL IN MY PRAYERS!!! May God be with you ALL!
