Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Roger Dale Rice, Jr.

For Deputy Sheriff Roger Rice:

Our duty as patrol officers takes us to the threshold of numerous situations that pose a threat to our life. Each day the patrol officer faces the possibilty of not returning home. We rely upon one another for our safety even though the worst can still occur. We regret learning that our brother Robert would this day be the next law officer to die in service to others.

We pray for Roger's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

As a retired state trooper and Lake County (FL) deputy sheriff I am proud to render Deputy Roger Rice a final salute.

Rger and I was at the Academy together. My last 2 weeks was Rogers first. His first night there he was so nervous (We were all there once) and naturally we began to speek being we were from the same county. I gave him the run down on what to expect his next 9 weeks and with that we became friends. It was as if we knew each other forever. I knew right then he was a great individual. I would have to say a good ol country boy. In that 2 weeks we talked every evening and he was dedicated at becoming a road officer. We all share a brotherhood no matter what the patch says. The words OFFICER DOWN was shouted on the radio that night and I sat in my police car and all I could do was ask GOD please hurry up and get there. I pray that his family will find that peace only the good LORD himself can give. I pray his kids know there daddy and who he is and was. Not so much as a Police Officer but as a good man. To the family of Roger we are all here and morn along beside you. To all my brothers in blue keep those words spoke to me by Roger that Thursday night in a cafeteria at the SC Academy " BE SAFE BROTHER AND GO HOME NO MATTER WHAT " RIP my brother Gods Speed and I will see you soon.

May God comfort ya'll at this time of GREAT LOSS. My sons EOW was 5-08-2010 by gunfire while serving a warrant. Although we dont have to face the same traumatic future that you will endure with a trial because the man that shot and killed my son was DRT (dead right there) his fellow officers made quick work of that. Our Thoughts and PRAYERS are with you.

My prayers are with the Rice family during this difficult time. I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.
