Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Roger Dale Rice, Jr.

God speed brother...I realize that I am a state away however I have family in South Carolina and go through Laurens Co to get to Kershaw. I've traveled this route hundreds of times and always thought how peaceful and beautiful this county is. I am so sorry that it has to be disturbed in this mannor. God be with the family, department and citizens of the county as you go though this. I too know the loss of an officer on duty as we had a seasoned officer shot and killed after a brief vehicle chase. He worked for a very small department and I am blessed to have known him both professional and personal. Rest easy brother, your work is done..Safe journey..

My heart and prayers go out for each and every person affected by this tragic event. Nothing can be said or spoken that will make the pain go away, but know that thousands of people are praying in support of you and in remembrance of your wonderful husband/father/family member/co-worker and friend.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community.

Though I have made mistakes, accept me, as I accept you and show me the way …..Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Pride is what you show through self-respect and conduct, Integrity is proven through honest action and character, while Honor is exceptional recognition given to you by another.

Honorable person
Exemplary character
Respected and revered
One of a kind
Exceptional act and/or devotion
Select few

I have no doubt that Laurens County Deputy Sheriff Roger Rice displayed ALL of these characteristics throughout his career in service to others as well as being an example of what a true lifelong hero should be.

Rest in Peace Sir as you continue to watch over your brethren and family until you meet again with a kind smile and a loving embrace.
