Reflections for Police Officer Brent Daniel Long
Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Happy Birthday in Heaven Brent. It's hard to believe that you have been gone almost 10 years. My heart still aches for you and I miss you so much. You are my child and I miss celebrating your birthday with you but I know you are celebrating in Heaven with family and friends. I can still see your smile and hear your laugh. I know you and Shadow are together and I believe your protecting Heaven and us from above. I love you Brent and until we're together again I'm sending you a birthday hug all the way to Heaven! Love You Mom.

My officer for the Fallen Officer Project is Brent Long. Being a Terre Haute native, I remember Officer Long's death and how it affected the city. However, I did not learn of how good of an officer Mr. Long really was. As an African American women in American it is hard to trust the police. After learning about Officer Long I really believe he was a trustworthy and upstanding officer. It is a tragedy that Officer Long isn't here to continue his work and I wish we had more officers on the force like him

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Brent, it has been 3 years and I miss you as much today, as I did the day you were killed. I know that you are in heaven and there with the other law enforcement officers that are there also and I know God has you all in his arms. That is what helps me get through this, is knowing I will see you again. I am so proud of you and always will be for I know you loved serving your community and being a K9 Police Officer, you lived your dream. You were a good son, brother, father and friend, you will always be in our hearts. Love You Always,

Officer Long, almost 3 years have passed since you were taken from us. During your procession the whole town turned up to mourn you and pay tribute. That shows how much you meant to the city and how much you will be missed. We still think about you today and we will never forget the sacrifice you made so we could sleep soundly in our beds. I know you walk with God now and you will never be forgotten. You are the definition of a Hero. Rest in peace.

I recently met some fellow officers in Myrtle Beach, SC knew Ofc. Long. They were very proud of Ofc. Long and miss him greatly. I was given a bracelt to remember Ofc. Long and I will wear it in his honor.
Heroes live forever!!!!
My thoughts and prayers are with Ofc. Long's wife, children, parents, and many friends he left behind. I read what his mother wrote about him and she sounds so proud. I can't imagine what any of them are going through.
Take care and god bless the Terre Haute Police Department.

Brent it now has been a little over a year now since you have gone home to be with God. We have been through all the first Holidays without you and I can't lie they were hard. But I know you were with us in Spirit and you will always live in my heart. The tears that I shed for you, is not for you but me missing you here for I know you are in heaven and there is nothing better than that. I am so proud of you being a police officer and the sacrifice that you made for your community. I know you loved your job and you would do it all over again. Brent God takes only the best and you are the best. He needs officers up there who are the best so you can protect heavens gate for us. I know you are here with your fellow brothers and sisters of the Terre Haute Police Dept. watching over them too. The same thing that you are still protecting your family, Danielle, Ashley and Levi. Levi was only 1 year old when you were killed but now he is 2 and when he see your picture he says Daddy and I know that makes you smile. We will tell him all about you when as he grows, tell him how proud you were of him and ashley, what a fine man you were, your bravery and of course the love you had for your family. Brent you were a great Officer and I am so proud of my son. You will always be a Hero in my eyes and you were such a good son, husband, father and brother. You were a good friend to many and a loyal friend to them. I wish you were here but I know that's not possible but I know what is possible that someday we will meet in heaven and that will be a glorious day! can't wait to hug you then. Love and Miss you so much my son until then, you will always be in my heart.
Love You Always, Mom
