Dear Mecklenburg family,

My heart broke as I received the email alert about the death of your husband and father. I wish it was a hurt no one else ever had to experience. I lost my husband last year in the line of duty and the one thought I will express to you is that you will survive and make it! I did't think it possible, but 18 months later and we have began our journey to adjust to a "new normal".

I will continue to remember you in my prayers daily and allow anybody that offers to help....let them! Take one day at a time and don't rush to make any decisions. I always asked myself the question...what would Chad tell me to do if he were here...and that is how I made my decisions. I have 2 sons, ages 6 & 10, and we try to focus on the positive memories and remember Chad as the hero he was.

Your husband and daddy will forever be remembered as a hero to many, but to you he was more than a deputy...husband, father, friend, advisor, playmate, role model, and many many more roles that only you and your children can understand.

If I can ever help, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Holly Reed
Widow of Capt. Chad Reed, Sr.....54-6

The sacrifice that this true American Hero made will not be forgotten. Whether serving on the battlefield as he has done previously, or as a deputy who policed our community, he served with valor and distinction. He made a difference, and pledged his all to keep us safe. He will be missed by many, many people unless I miss my guess. Honor his memory, and do the little things in life that make us all better people, whether it is making room on the bus for a less able citizen, following the rules on the highways, and byways, volunteering to help those less fortunate than ourselves. I for one, honor his memory, and will say a prayer for the loving family and friends he left behind, that they will eventually find closure, and receive the support of the community he served without reservation.
