Vanmeter... It just isn't real to me that you are gone. You were such a funny person. Always happy, always a wonderful smile on your face, and always full of humor! You were someone who truly enjoyed your job and helping others. Taken way to soon! I enjoyed the few times that I got to work with you. You were always professional. I remember a time when we were dealing with a "Not so happy citizen" who was about to call back into dispatch and let me know how unhappy he was after he told you. You calmed him down before turning him over to me and made my job much easier. You just had that way with people. It is truly a loss to the department, to the citizens of Brazoria County, and to your family. You are gone, but you will never be forgotten! Thank you for all of the laughs that you gave me. In the line of work that we chose, we sure need them! R.I.P.

VanMeter: an Honorable Brother, always looking out for family and friends.
It was just a few weeks ago that you were over at our house visiting. Charles, you were an amazing person, a good friend. You wore the brown with honor, integrity, and a great sense of humor.
You were taken too soon, but you left an amazing legacy for those of us still here. Our hearts are heavy, but we will meet again brother.

"Heaven Needed A Deputy"
It was the 26th of June that he went away,
only two days past his 27th birthday.
His family and friends all asked,
why a young man a deputy
so full of life
with so many things yet to experience
was taken away that day

Then this tiny voice whispered deep inside our hearts:
“God needed a young Deputy Angel in heaven
and Charles was His chosen one,
Charles is now a Deputy Angel
with wings of silver
and his golden deputy's’ star still upon his chest
around his head was placed a golden halo band”

Yes, our loss is great,
but heaven needed a special Deputy Angel
to serve at he Lords’ right hand;
Charles was specially selected by Our Lord
As one of His Very Special Angels
that serve at His right hand.

So every night Charles looks down from the white puffy cloud
that makes his bed ,he smiles and whispers
this message to his family and friends hearts:
“ I was taken away from you only temporarily;
the Lord needed me to help here in heaven ...
Someday we will be reunited and never again have to part
until we are reunited ...
RIP VanMeter, you will be very missed! I will for sure miss your big smiling face, your jokes and most of all making your business cards.......

Charles, you have left us, sorrow fills my heart. I will miss your smile, humor, and sometimes the twinkle of mischief in your eye. Each day that you put on your uniform and badge, you lived up to the promise you made to Protect and Serve. God has given many blessings and one of them was you.

To your family, loved ones, co-workers and friends, may God's Grace lead them through this time of sorrow.

Goodbye for now my young friend, until it's my time, then we will meet again.

So so sorry to hear of Deputy VanMeter's terrible tragedy. I have been married to a police officer for 42 years and am so saddened when I hear of a loss of life like Deputy VanMeters. These officers give their all to protect and serve the public, and we should honor this man for putting on the badge to serve. Prayerfully thinking about his family, friends, and co-workers especially the injured deputy that was with Deputy VanMeter.

My heart breaks for the loss of such an AMAZING young man. You were such a great friend to my daughter Jenna. I don't think I ever saw you with out a smile on your face, even when we drove by you giving a citation to a motorist and we yelled out the window to give them a break VanMeter.... You just smiled and waived and proceeded to write their ticket. You will be truly missed by all who knew you. Thank you for all you did and putting your life on the line to protect all of us in Brazoria County. May God Bless and comfort your family, friends, and co-workers.

I have had the pleasure to work with VanMeter in the jail and as a Mental Health Deputy. I appreciate the enthusiasm and energy he showed, but most important is the respect he gave to individuals with mental illness. We will all miss him and my condolences to his family.
