Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Richard Keith Bellar
FTO Bellar we will still have our cook out and I know you will be there looking down from a better place. I know how much you loved our God Jesus Christ and thank you for sharing the bible with me. I will miss you and and I'm sorry that I was not there that day to be with you and to help you. Rest in peace my brother. We will take it from here.

Deputy Bellar was one of my closest friends. Keith and I worked together for nearly seven years. Keith was someone that I could always go to when I needed someone to talk too. We shared many of the same beliefs in life and always had each others backs. We both loved God, Family and the true meaning of wearing that Badge. Keith's passion for cycling rubbed off on me and we planned to test ourselves at the Nashville Marathon and Nashville Tri. in 2012. I push myself every day in the gym, on my bike and in the pool to make him proud. Not a day passes where his abscence is not felt. Keith you were the greatest of friends and I miss you more than words can define. Heaven has a Wonderful Angel.

To the family of Deputy Bellar- There are no words that come to mind that can take the pain away or the anguish you feel, I wish there were. I can only offer some of the most beatiful words I know that were given to a mother who lost sons during the Civil War. I have taken some of those words from this letter and in hopes they help heal your grief.
"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save."
"I pray that our Heavenly father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." - Abraham Lincoln
May God rest your souls and still your pain. Rest in Peace Forever my Brother, your job is done.

FTO Keith Bellar I remember six years ago when two rookie Deputies started together on midnight shift like it was yesterday. We both leaned on each other and made it to becoming seasoned officers. I will never forget you Keith you were my friend on and off from work and I will always think of you when I place this badge on my chest and leave for my shift. I find great comfort in knowing that you are now riding with me as one of gods angels watching over me and guiding me. You are a hero Keith Bellar.

Deputy Bellar , Dickson County was blessed by your dedication and service to the community. We can never repay you enough for the great sacrifice you made. You will now endure a life of no pain or suffering and patrol crimeless streets. You will know that your child and family will get to see their hometown hero again. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers as I remind my children and others of the dangers faced by law enforcement May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hands.

To Deputy Sheriff Bellar's Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. May it help in some small way to know others care about you.
I understand the tragedy of that of a young officer with a young family. My son was 25 with a wife, 18 month old daughter and 22 day old son, parents, brother, etc. No grief is the same. Surround yourself with family and friends. Get advice on how to handle your grief with your precious young son around.
Take care of yourself one day at a time~Contact me if you wish.

Keith,
I know you were proud of the amazing show of support from our community and from our the law enforcement family yesterday at your funeral service. All the guys from Dickson County S.O. who served as Honor Guard, Flag Detail, etc....
did such an amazing job. I know it was hard for them to maintain, but they were all proud to do it in your honor. I know you are proud of each of them and the work they did.
Keith, we are all so proud of you and your service. Most of all, we are proud to have known you, the young man and officer that you were. As the Sheriff said yesterday, you had your house in order. God, Family, then the Job. I hope I can always remeber your example.

To the family, friends, and co-workers. A great saying I saw the other day " Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain". I did not know Keith outside of work, but during the small times we did work together, He was certainly a great guy and great deputy. May God bless his young son and family.

Avenue of the Fallen
Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Deputy Keith Bellar was an inspiration to many, especially me. I often wished that I could be more like him. He possessed all the characteristics of the “perfect cop!” He was patient, thorough, tactically sound, and always professional. He firmly enforced the law with empathy and equality. He was proud to serve as a Deputy Sheriff and was on the fast-track to be one of Dickson County’s most effective leaders. But, most important of all he exemplified Godliness. Keith demonstrated Christianity at work better than any I’ve ever worked with. Even when it may not have been popular to do so, Keith remained true to his Biblical and Christian principles, all while not judging or criticizing others.
Tomorrow, I’ll have to say my final “goodbye” to a great partner, friend, and Christian Brother. Keith was an inspiration to me in life and in death! And, I’ll never forget the positive impact that he made on my life, personally and professionally.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Bellar's family and co-workers. Deputy Bellar you will never be forgotten. I would like to share something that was left on my fathers reflection page. Trooper Charles Campbell.
The Badge
He starts his sift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make if safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In his world of drugs and crime.
And he get so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his bagde is shining bright.
He ask the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue-His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer has died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
