Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Kurt Brian Wyman

We first met Kurt when he was 6 years old. He was always a respectful, kind and good-natured young man. We were glad for his good example to our 6 children. We are even more so today. We deeply grieve the loss of Kurt's earthly life and the opportunity to fellowship with him here. Years ago Kurt chose to trust in Jesus christ alone to forgive his sins and give him eternal life. For him then, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We grieve for his sweet wife and children, for his dear parents and extended family. The faithfulness of god, who gives concentrated care to widows and the fatherless, is our refuge. May brothers and sisters in christ flush out this care of God to them. Thanks, Kurt for following God's priorities-"to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God,"(Micah 6:8) We're prasing God for your life well-lived and praying much for the family and fellow officers.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Deputy Wyman, thank you for your service to the citizens of our county and our Country. I truly hurts to loose a brave brother in blue. I hurts even more when it's one from our own community. When people run away from danger, we run and face it head on. You will now stand guard with Tommy and Joe. We will keep you and your family in our prayers and thoughts. Watch over us from above, we now have the watch.
