Reflections for Sergeant Kenneth Gary Vann, Sr.
When I read the article for the first time several hours after this ambush, it placed a large hole in my heart as another brother in blue has lost his life in such a violent year for peace officers across this country. As I look forward to graduating and earning my badge in 2.5 weeks, I will take Sgt Vann's memory with me as well as the memories of all the other officers who have laid down their lives and try to learn from them and continue their memories in bringing strength and integrity to my beat. May you rest in peace Sgt Vann and your family find peace as well. My love, respect and sorrow is to you and yours.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers, brother. It saddens me that another one of our own has been taken from us due to the poor decisons and carelessness of another. You went above and beyond the call of duty and selflessly gave your life to save another, you are a true hero. You have done your family, friends and department proud. You stand relieved, brother, we have the watch. May you forever walk with St. Michael in Heaven and continue to watch over us.

The rule of Law has no meaning to the cowards that prey on our society and take the lives of those that are sworn to protect those that cannot protect themselves. These gutless, cowardly, punks that took your life will indeed find it difficult to remain unknown for very long for as we all know there is not an ounce of honor among these animals. Somebody will turn them in, there will be to much heat on these cowards and the rest of the cowards will not want any of that heat on them. Like roaches, when the light of day or the light of justice shines they run and try to hide. They will not be able to run and hide, may justice be swift. Sgt. Vann, I honor you today and offer my prayers to you and your loving family. The truley brave only die once, these cowards will die a thousand times over in this life and the next, may hell reserve these cowards a special place for I know Heaven has a special seat reserved for Sgt. Vann. God Bless you sir.

We have lost a brother officer and I have lost a friend. May God bring comfort, strength, and that peace, that only God can bring ,to his wife, family, and friends and to all those who knew him. It is said that "God has a plan" but at times like this I really don't even start to understand how this could be part of it. My prayer is also for justice. May those responsible be brought to justice swiftly. The Bexar County Sheriffs Office has lost a fine officer to a senseless act of violence. May angels watch over each and every officer out there. God bless you all.

How sad of a society do we live in when a 24 year veteran of law enforcement can't even go to work and do his job without some useless cowards gunning him down at a red light while on his way to help someone? As it has already been said, they had to ambush you because the cowards weren't good enough for a face-to-face confrontation. Each day that passes our jobs get harder and more dangerous.
To his family, friends, and co-workers- although most of us did not know him, we mourn your loss as we do with any officer taken from us. We will continue the fight that he was a big part of, and although our hearts are heavy,we will go forward like he would want us to. You will not be forgotten my brother. Rest in Peace..........

My heart goes out to Sergeant Vann for this terrible crime and he will never be missed. Thank you for keeping one of my favorite areas of Texas safe. It was 18 months ago on November 29, 2009, the Sunday after Thanksgiving that there were 4 Lakewood, Washington Police Officer gave their lives and were ambushed in a coffee shop. That same year a month earlier on Halloween a Seattle Police Officer gave his life and was ambushed after competing a traffic stop with the officer he was training. This goes to show that no matter where an officer patrols their lives are always on the front line. Thank you Sergeant Vann for your 24 years of service. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I'm on duty at the moment as I type this reflection, reading this has brought my night to a hault. I sat in dead silence reading over the article at least 3 times over as I grip the steering wheel to my cruiser in anger, outrage and a true feeling of loss and heart break. You didn't deserve that brother. None of us do. I pray that your family will make it through this dark time. Here's to you Sarge, may your memory live on forever and ever.....and *Godspeed* to your Department and others in the area as they hunt for the individuals who did this. Go Get em.

Thanks for your service Sgt. I talked with a few officers when we received the information over our MDT's. We were shocked, angry, and sad. God guide your family during this difficult time and rest in peace brother.
